Austrian Airlines RFID Case Study Nordic ID

“We have done extensive research on different RFID readers because of our strict requirements. We really feel that we chose one of the best readers on the market. It’s robust, efficient and does what we expect it to do – accurately reading tags in a challenging environment.”

-Austrian Airlines

The Company

Austrian Airlines is Austria’s largest carrier and operates an annual global route network of approximately 130 destinations. They are a part of the Lufthansa Group, Europe’s largest airline group, and a member of the Star Alliance, the first global alliance of international airlines.

The Challenge

Aircraft maintenance processes are crucial to flight safety. They are also time-consuming and demand large personnel resources. The challenge was to optimize these processes to reduce the cost of labor and time spent on this essential routine maintenance.

The solution

In order to easily read safety information, items throughout an aircraft were tagged. The Nordic ID Merlin was the only tag reader tested that had enough power to even read tags that were hidden in lockers, under seats etc. This saved time, because technicians now only had to read the area, and no longer had to take on extra movements throughout the process.
